Why a Single Cleanse Doesn't Actually Remove Your Sunscreen
Most sunscreens, and a lot of the sebum your skin produces during the day, are oil-based. Most everyday cleansers are water-based. Oil and water don't mix, which is basic chemistry, and it's also the entire reason a single evening cleanse routinely leaves behind more residue than people realize.
The like-dissolves-like problem
Water-based cleansers are effective at removing water-soluble debris, sweat, water-based makeup, surface grime, but they aren't formulated to break down oil-based films efficiently. Sunscreen filters, in particular, are often designed to be water-resistant specifically so they survive sweat and swimming, which means the same property that makes them useful during the day makes them harder to remove with a quick, single, water-based wash at night.
What's left behind when this step gets skipped
